Google is pulling the plug on another application for the sake of Youtube!
As you know, Google decides to close some of its important services and merge others. The last name affected by this decision was Google Popcast, which was launched in 2018. The US giant is replacing Google Popcast with Youtube Music.

For those who don’t know, Google announced last August that YouTube Music would offer podcast support in the USA. This feature, which is currently available in the USA, Canada and Latin America, is aimed to be available all over the world by the end of the year. At this point, Google announced that it has decided to close the Google Podcasts application for the future.

In the official announcement, a clear date for the closure of the application was not shared. However, the year 2024 is indicated. Additionally, Google shared that 23 percent of podcast listeners use YouTube as a podcast listening service, while only 4 percent prefer Google Podcasts. Therefore, it would be correct to say that the decision taken is not surprising.

To make the transition to YouTube Music easier, Google will also offer some useful tools. Thus, users will be able to add video and podcast RSS feeds to their YouTube Music libraries. Additionally, subscriptions, playlists and listening history in the Podcasts application can also be transferred to YouTube Music.
