READING NOW Google is getting ready to pull the plug on a beloved service!

Google has an application or tool that will make our work easier in almost every field. Many applications for use both in the business sector and in daily life are available for download in virtual markets.

Google Hangouts, which allows cross-platform chat transfer, is also one of the favorites of many users. But the company is preparing to pull the plug on the popular application. Here are the expiration date and details given…

Workspace users will switch from Hangouts to Chat

A change will be made for Google Workspace users. With this change, which will not please Hangouts lovers, the messaging system in Workspace will be completely moved to Chat. The application, which has not been used for a long time, seems to gradually disappear into history.

In a Workspace blog post, the company mentions that plans to disable Hangouts began last summer and are slowly approaching the final stage. Starting March 22, there will be a mandatory Prefer Chat option for all users.

Thus, over time, the Chat application will be permanently installed and Hangouts will be a thing of the past. This option cannot be revoked and will be permanent. The start time of these settings will be related to the administrative settings of the Workspace you are using.

For those who use Chat and Hangouts simultaneously, this period will start on March 22 and last for 3 weeks. For those who only use Hangouts, it will start on April 4 and will be subject to a 5-week period. When you choose Chat only, Hangouts will only be available from its own app or site.

This transition phase only applies to Workspace users. Although a definite date has not been specified yet, it is obvious that the Hangouts application is trying to be completely obsolete. The forced switch to Google Chat is proof of that. Another clue is the appearance of banners inviting users to use Chat in the application since last August.

Hangouts users have also decreased considerably after the failure of Allo, another messaging app for Android and iOS users, released in 2016. This pushes the company to pull the plug on the app. Considering that applications such as WhatsApp and iMessage are also available, this result is not surprising.
