Google has released a number of updates to its mobile apps and services, including updates to the At a Glance Google Assistant widget, improvements to the Lookout visual accessibility app, and Zoom calls in Android Auto. These updates come with branding updates designed to remind you that Android is a fun yet serious Google product. And yes, the Android logo has changed too.Logo and brand fixes
Now the Android logo will start to look a little different. The font will be closer to that of Google’s own logo, and Android will now be written with a capital A. “It more closely reflects Google’s logo and creates balance between the two,” Google brand manager Jason Fournier said in explaining the change in a company blog post. In addition, the robot will gain a 3D appearance with color variations depending on the situation.Additionally, the At a Glance widget is getting a design refresh and provides more helpful information about your events, travels, and local weather. Google is also updating Wallet to make it easier to upload barcode and QR code passes by adding a photo import feature.
Providing descriptions of on-screen images for people who have low vision or are blind, the Lookout app will be able to more intelligently describe scenes and answer follow-up questions. Additionally, support for joining Zoom and Webex calls is also added to Android Auto.
With all that said, this won’t be the last we’ll hear from Google this fall. The company’s hardware launch event will be held on October 4 and the Pixel 8 family will be introduced. Presumably, we will also have a full Android 14 release by then.
