Forget ray tracing video games or cryptocurrency mining; Sometimes, one of the hardest tasks you can do on PC is to run Chrome. Apparently, Google is aware of the resource-hungry nature of Chrome. Google is rolling out two new features for the Chrome browser on Windows, macOS and ChromeOS, Memory Saver and Energy Saver, which hope to make your browser run a little better on more limited machines.

Google Chrome’s RAM starvation will end

Memory Saver appears as a mode that you can turn on or off whenever you want, and Google says it will use “40 percent less memory” by throwing background tabs out of RAM thanks to this feature.
Google says “inactive tabs will be reloaded when you need them”. This feature can hurt the user in some cases, so it may be important to save your work on the tab if this feature is turned on. However, it is possible to go to the Memory Saver feature in the settings and add the sites that you do not want to be taken into the background and reloaded from the “Always keep these sites active” section.

If you currently want to use Memory Saver mode, you can activate the feature by typing “chrome://flags/#high-efficiency-mode-available” in the URL of your browser.

Another feature, Energy Saving, works more automatically. This activates when your laptop battery reaches 20 percent. For this feature, Google says, “Chrome will save battery by limiting background activity and visual effects for websites with animations and videos.” If you want, it is possible to turn this feature off in the settings. Google says both features will be available “globally for Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS in the next few weeks.”
