Google has finally announced the long-awaited merger of its Meet and Duo platforms today. In its announcement shared today, the company announced that Meet and Duo will merge on a single platform, and it will soon be called Google Meet only. The new platform, which will be formed by the combination of the two applications, will carry the features of both platforms in the same way.
Google’s Meet application has turned into a very powerful platform in recent years, especially when we were locked in our homes due to the effect of the coronavirus. Contrary to Meet, where group meetings can be held, Duo remained a bit in the background among the applications chosen for video calling. The mobile application of Google Duo will be of great importance in the new combination.
Google Duo application will be used in the merger
With the combination of the two services, the Google Duo mobile application will receive an update and start hosting all Meet features. Later this year, the name of the application will be changed to Google Meet. The current Google Meet mobile app will be called ‘Meet Original’ and will be discontinued as time goes on.
With Google’s merging of its two services, the company will have the chance to rival WhatsApp with just one application, with Apple’s video calling service FaceTime, multi-conversation and meeting platform Zoom, and the messaging feature of Duo. Of course, this will again depend on the preferences of the users. The meeting will take place as soon as possible.
