Pixel 7 facial recognition is not secure enough to confirm payments, according to Google
According to Google, for a system to be called secure, the cheat rate must be below 7%. The facial recognition system in Pixel 7 models can be deceived by 20 percent. The system also doesn’t do well in low-light environments. Since the system used by Apple in iPhone models performs three-dimensional scanning with infrared lighting, it is not affected by low ambient light.
In 2019, Google offered a depth-scanning infrared-supported facial recognition system to its users with full security, just like Apple uses in its Pixel 4 series. For Google, which uses this hardware using the same parts as Apple, the problem was the supply of parts. It was stated that the costs of parts are very high for Google, which produces and sells much less Pixel 4 compared to Apple’s iPhone sales.
Although the facial recognition feature on Google’s new phones is not secure, it will be enough to quickly unlock the screen while walking during the day.
