Epic Games has taken a step forward in the legal battle between Apple and Google, which has been going on for a while, after the court’s decision about Apple to offer an alternative payment system to developers. Thereupon, Fornite special team was established by Google to fight Epic.

Google is determined in its fight: Fornite special team is coming!

As a rule, developers have to use Apple’s payment system for in-app purchases. Therefore, Epic Games was trying to offer its own payment infrastructure, which it would use for in-game purchases in Fortnite, to avoid a 30 percent commission. However, Apple did not allow this. Then another blow came from the Google front.

According to court filings announced in August, Google tried to buy Epic Games either completely or in parts due to disagreements over Fortnite’s Android application. However, the process continued as no positive result could be obtained.

On top of that, a Fortnite special team was established by Google to prevent players from downloading Fortnite from sources other than the Play Store. However, Epic Games said that this step taken by the company contradicts its own ideology of open platform.

Epic Games said that this special team found a vulnerability in the currently used Fortnite installer, in order to scare users into relying on the Play Store for downloads and updates. Although Google staff members said it was “not a high vulnerability”, in a blog post it described it as an “extremely serious vulnerability” and ran a media campaign about it.

Google continues to insist that the vulnerability could endanger consumers’ data. He even made the following statement on the subject:

Security is one of the things we care most about. Therefore, we have taken steps to alert our users of this vulnerability in accordance with our application security policy. We will also continue to fight Epic’s claims in court (scheduled October 17, 2022).

From what we can see, Google is ready to do whatever it takes to be the winner. What do you think about this subject? Do you think the right side is Epic Games or Google and Apple? Don’t forget to share your views with us in the comments!
