Google’s file storage and synchronization service, Google Drive, is one of the most useful services for users. The service, which has been in existence since 2012, provides its users with the opportunity to store documents, share files, edit and many more via the cloud. Of course, Google Drive also has a desktop application.

An information noticed by Android Police today reveals that Google’s Drive application will cut off access on some Windows operating system versions. According to the information on the support page, Google Drive will no longer be available on 32-bit versions of Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10.

Google Drive desktop app will end support for Windows 8, 8.1 and 32-bit Windows 10 in August

According to Google, the app’s support for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and 32-bit Windows 10 will be discontinued in August of this year. After that, users with 64-bit Windows 10 and above will be able to use the desktop application. There is no information on whether the cut will be complete.

The change does not mean that affected users will not be able to use Drive via a browser. In other words, if you are using the Windows versions announced by Google, you will still be able to access Drive from the browser, although not from the desktop application. However, if you want the application, you need to update your computer.

The era of Windows 8 and 8.1 is slowly coming to an end. Microsoft stopped security updates and technical support for these operating systems last January. On the other hand, Google also released the first Chrome, which does not support Windows 7 and Windows 8 versions, in February.
