Announced new security features for Google Chrome’s password manager. The Chrome password manager will support biometric authentication on PCs and Macs.

The feature, which is already available in the mobile version, will work the same on the desktop. The web browser will ask the user to pass the authentication step with fingerprint or facial recognition before displaying the login information.

Google says the authentication option brought to the Chrome password manager will come to the desktop “soon”. Notes can be added next to passwords stored in Chrome’s password manager, and passwords can be imported from password management apps.

To compete with popular password management apps like 1Password, Google is trying to attract users with new features like a passkey.
