Browsers with a reading mode such as Opera convert the entire web page to be readable. However, Chrome reading mode does this via a side panel that opens on the right. In the officially announced reading mode for Chrome desktop browser and ChromeOS, users will be able to customize different aspects of text such as spacing, font size, font and colors. In addition, the size of the panel itself can be changed, while the background colors can be adjusted.
By making the reading mode a separate panel next to the original web page, Google offers users both plain text and continues to show ads when the reading mode is enabled.
