At Apple’s WWDC 2023 event held on June 5, Vision Pro glasses, which turned the eyes of the world into mixed reality, were introduced. While the industry was expected to become more popular with Apple’s device, of course, other competitors were expected to develop new devices to rival Apple.

The closest device to rival Apple’s Vision Pro was the Meta Quest Pro, which was released in October 2022. But while we expect the number of competing devices to increase, interesting claims have been made about Google today.

Google canceled the mixed reality glasses project “in-house”:

Last January, it was learned that Google was working on a mixed reality glasses. This glasses project was also codenamed “Project Iris” for now. The glasses would rival Meta’s Quest Pro and Vision Pro, which was known to be introduced only for a while.

However, according to the news shared by Insider and based on “relevant resources”, Google shelved Project Iris. The company has now decided to focus on new software rather than new hardware.

On the other hand, sources also pointed out that the glasses project was not completely shelved. He stated that Google’s glasses are actually a basis for Samsung’s new glasses.

A development supporting these claims took place last February. Google, Samsung and Qualcomm have announced that they have started jointly developing a mixed reality platform.

It will not produce glasses but will produce software for glasses:

According to the details shared by Insider, Google is working on a platform called “micro XR” for other manufacturers to use in glasses. This platform will function just like the Android operating system, aiming to be like the Android of the phone world.
