Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, recently announced that unused accounts will be gradually deleted and 1.5 billion account names will be wasted. Now, Google has announced that it has updated its account security policies to further protect data security.
As Google announced in its blog post, the company announced that it will delete accounts that have not been logged in for 24 months, starting December 2023, to prevent accounts from falling into the hands of malicious people. So, how can we keep Google accounts active?
Accounts not entered for 24 months will be deleted!
The old policy, laid out in 2020 when Google ended free unlimited storage for Photos, said that Google could delete data stored in accounts that hadn’t been touched for at least two years.
However, a blog post by product manager Ruth Kricheli indicates that these accounts can now be deleted completely. According to the statement, many notification messages will be sent to the accounts for recovery in the last few months before deletion.
According to the information obtained, the accounts will begin to be deleted from December of this year. This is due to the fact that older accounts are subject to fewer security checks, the statement said.
“Our internal analysis shows that abandoned accounts are at least 10x less likely to set up two-step verification than active accounts,” Ruth Kricheli said in a statement. That is, these accounts are often vulnerable and once an account is hacked, they can be used for anything from identity theft to a vector for unwanted or even malicious content such as spam.” said.
