Google’s ChatGPT rival, artificial intelligence chatbot Bard, is becoming increasingly useful after a lackluster introduction. Now, the bot’s YouTube integration is getting a handy upgrade, so it can analyze individual videos to reveal specific information for you, like highlights or recipe ingredients, without pressing play.

Bard will be able to summarize YouTube videos

This makes Bard a potentially extremely useful tool, but it could raise more concerns about generative AI for creators. Although it is now possible to summarize content with Bard that contains information you are curious about but you do not have time to watch, this naturally means less income for content creators.

Before this latest update, the YouTube Extension for Bard could only be used to find specific videos. For example, you could ask the chatbot to find funny videos for you. Now you can ask the chatbot specific questions about the content of the videos. Let’s say you’re watching a travel video and you see a place you really like, you can ask Bard where that place is. Likewise, you may be asked about things such as a recipe or listing the things that need to be done when setting up a system.

The update also comes as Google opens up access to Bard to young people in many countries around the world. Teens can use the tool to “find inspiration, discover new hobbies, and solve everyday problems,” the search giant says in a blog post. Teens can ask Bard questions about important topics, like which college to apply to, or more fun topics, like how to learn a new sport.
