Google has announced that it has abandoned the decision to remove the section on the Play Store that lists which permissions an app uses. The company recently replaced this section with the Data Security section, where it was written what data the applications collect and how this data is used.

However, the information in the Data Security section comes from the developers, while the information in the app permissions section was created by Google. In other words, the developer could provide incomplete information about the collected data or permissions.

Google announced that the app permissions section will be back soon and they made this decision because of user feedback. When the section returns, it will be available along with the Data Security section.

The Data Security section, which Google announced in May 2021 and started rolling out in April of this year, is similar to Apple’s privacy labels. Developers share with Google what they do with users’ data (e.g. with third parties and what type of data the app collects) and provide other information such as whether users want their data deleted and whether the data is encrypted. While Google says only developers know these details, it also says it will take action against an app if it finds inaccuracies in its Data Security information.
