Google announced that it has advanced the release date of Android 16. The new version will be available to users in the second quarter of 2025, possibly between April and June.
The date change was made to better align with the launch dates of Android devices.
Two new Android versions in 2025
The release of Android 16 this year will allow new smartphones and other Android devices to reach users with the latest operating system. With this strategy, Google aims to provide users with faster access to the latest features. It is expected that the user experience in the Android ecosystem will be improved by giving Android manufacturers additional time to update their devices.
On the other hand, in addition to Android 16 being released in the second quarter of 2025, a second version is also planned to be announced in the fourth quarter of the same year (between October and December). However, this version is described as a “minor update”. This update is expected to include feature updates, optimizations, and bug fixes from the major release. Thus, this version, which will be called Android 16.1, will further improve users’ current experiences.
