Most web browsers usually come with one or more default search engines. The same goes for Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft’s Edge or Google’s Chrome. Previously, users had the ability to remove or delete a default search engine from their browser settings.

However, in the latest Chromium 97 update, there is no option to remove the default search engine in Settings. The “Make default” or “Edit” options remain, but there is no “Remove” option. The developers must have thought that this option was unnecessary for an as yet unknown reason. This may be because this operation cannot be undone.

However, although it was done with good intentions, users who complain that their options are limited say that the new system poses some problems. For example, on the Chrome forum, a user named Filipa Nunes says that her default search engine is constantly returning to Yahoo. There are other users reporting similar problems.

In light of all these criticisms, it will not be a surprise for anyone that the option to remove the default search engine will return in Chromium 98 or 99 versions. . .
