READING NOW Google: Android device manufacturers responsible for delay in updates

Google has released a report in which it talks about issues with security updates on Android devices. According to the company, the main reason for the delay of patches is the insensitivity of smartphone manufacturers. So there is a great lack of brands in this regard.

The report states that Google quickly finds and fixes security vulnerabilities in the operating system and sends patches to partners. However, many manufacturers are unable or uninterested in distributing updates in a timely manner to people who use their devices. As a result, smartphones remain vulnerable to potential attacks.

The patch released in October has been put on hold for months

As an example, Google cited a vulnerability discovered in the Mali GPU in July of 2022. The search giant says it released a patch to fix the bug in October of the same year. However, many smartphone manufacturers did not update their devices until April 2023.

According to the company’s statement, the only way for users to protect themselves until they receive the necessary patches is to stop using the device. There is a huge gap between the update release date of Google and the release of the manufacturers to users, and this poses a serious risk.
