Russia continued to use Apple Pay and Google Pay payment systems despite all the bans. The Russians, who transferred their cards to the system through the Russian national payment system Mir, also had the opportunity to pay in this way. But first Google, now Apple Pay, has closed all the doors for Russia.
Russian payment system Mir cannot be used with Apple Pay and Google Pay
Russia’s national payment system Mir was removed from the payment system by Apple and Google at the beginning of March. However, a software loophole still allowed Russia Mir cards to be used on Apple Pay and Google Pay. Google managed to close this gap last week.
Apple Pay, on the other hand, managed to close the gap for Mir cards as of March 24. Accordingly, it is currently not possible to add Russian payment system cards to Apple Pay and Google Pay. Apple has taken action to stop the transactions of existing attached cards for Mir card users. Currently, it is still possible to use Mir cards attached to the Apple Pay system. In this sense, Apple Pay Russia will remove the attached cards from the system within a few days within the scope of the ban on Mir cards.
Mir cards are completely disabled for Google Pay. Russia began to invade Ukraine at around 06:00 on the morning of February 24. Russian armies advancing in a short time occupied the Donbass region in the east of Ulrayna. However, Putin and the Russian armies, who did not stop there, continued to advance in the direction of both Crimea and Kyiv. He is among the biggest collaborators of the war in Ukraine’s neighbor and pro-Russian Belarus.
While the war between Russia and Ukraine continued with all its violence, the western world both suspended all relations with Russia and began to impose harsh sanctions. It is thought that Russia, which was removed from the SWIFT system, applied to cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin, for cash in and out of the country.
