Google shared what it will bring with new updates in operating systems and applications at the I/O event it held on May 11-12. Some details that are not shared here are also newly emerging. One of the most notable among these is the new feature of the Google Maps application that will reduce fuel costs.

Google Maps will lower fuel costs by asking what kind of car you drive!

Despite all efforts, the carbon emission of our world is many times higher than it should be. In fact, it is increasing every year, albeit at a slower pace. For example, according to the latest data, in 2021, it increased by 5 percent compared to 2020 and reached 33 billion tons.

So long story short, we are killing our world with our own hands. For this reason, many organizations and companies, especially the UN, are trying to reduce this rate. One of them is the electric car conversion. In fact, the EU has decided to completely stop the production of internal combustion engines in 2030.

But this is not enough. Individually, everyone needs to pay attention to this. Google, on the other hand, said that it will bring a new feature to the Maps application. We will now be able to choose the fuel of our vehicle as LPG, diesel, hybrid or electric.

The application, which adds this information to its algorithm, will determine a route that will provide us both the cheapest cost and the lowest carbon emissions when we go somewhere. This is slightly different from choosing the short route that already exists.

For example, he will be able to say that we should prefer a 1.5 or 2 kilometer straight road instead of a 1 kilometer steep climbing route, as it will allow us to consume less fuel. In this way, you will both consume less fuel and save money.
