On January 27, Apple released the first beta of iOS 15.4 for participants in the closed testing program. The company redesigned the Face ID facial recognition system in the new version. Because of the worldwide epidemiological situation, some changes had to be made.
More than two years have passed since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. As you know, it is still obligatory to wear masks in public places. Accordingly, Apple, which made some changes in the Face ID system, started to test the unlock feature with the mask in the iOS 15.4 beta 1 version.
Recognize from the areas around the eyes
As you may recall, Apple previously offered an unlocking feature on the Apple Watch as a remedy for this situation. However, this was only a solution for those with smartwatches. That’s why the company added a new mode to the Face ID facial recognition system in iOS 15.4 beta 1.
The browser will recognize unique features around the eyes for authentication. In other words, users will have the opportunity to use Face ID with or without a mask. Also, an option to add a new glasses has been added to the Settings section. In this way, your iPhone will be able to recognize you even when you are wearing a mask and glasses.
It seems that not everyone will be able to take advantage of this special feature. It is reported that the innovation in question only works on the iPhone 12 and 13 series. Apple may make changes on this subject in the future. As you know, Face ID has been around since the iPhone X model.
