Microsoft Store got the expected feature
For those who missed it, Microsoft Store has had restrictions on which drive or directory applications can be installed for many years. The new update released specifically for Windows 11 (version 22310) provides a solution to this problem. Now when you buy a game directly from the Microsoft Store, you’ll be able to choose a drive or location on your computer to install it.
As you can see above, before downloading an application, we encounter an information screen about where to install the game. You can change the default driver via the Game installation options section and the Microsoft Store Settings page here. It should be noted that this functionality is already available in the Xbox App and UWP games. But until now it was only available for games purchased or rented through the Xbox App (an Xbox Game Pass).
Why did it take over a decade for the Microsoft Store to have this functionality? It’s hard to say. Additionally, it is still unclear whether this feature will be available specifically for Windows 10.
