Nvidia released Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB) for G-SYNC monitors in 2015 to provide extra motion sharpness in competitive gaming. G-SYNC ULMB 2, on the other hand, takes the situation one step further and aims to minimize the blurring that occurs in moving scenes and to ensure clarity. Especially in competitive FPS games like Valorant and CS:GO, the benefit of this can be great for professional gamers.

Nvidia G-SYNC ULMB 2 released

G-SYNC ULMB 2 offers an effective motion sharpness rate of over 1000 Hz that will make a big difference in competitive gaming and eSports games. With its ULMB 2 technology, Nvidia hopes to improve the appearance of motion when there is permanent blur, offering close to 2x the brightness and zero noise. ULMB 2 is currently available for free for 1440p 360Hz G-SYNC monitors via a firmware update.

When the original ULMB technology was introduced in 2015, monitor response times (the time it takes for a pixel to color transition) were relatively slow, causing significant ghosting and blurry images, resulting in poor motion sharpness. Nvidia has developed a technique called “backlight strobing” for this. To use this technique, ULMB would disable the backlight 75 percent of the time. So images were clearer on a typical 300 nits panel, but the brightness was also reduced.

G-SYNC ULMB 2, on the other hand, now promises a much more effective use as its response times are increased. It is possible to experience this feature on Acer Predator XB273U F – 27” 1440p 360 Hz and Asus ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQN – 27” 1440p 360 Hz monitors. To enable ULMB 2 on 1440p 360Hz monitors updated with the new firmware, the following steps are required:

1. Disable Nvidia G-SYNC Variable Refresh Rate in Nvidia Control Panel.

2. Enable G-SYNC ULMB 2 in monitor settings.
