There is good news and bad news from Mars. Let’s give the good news first. Using NASA’s Perseverance probe drill, he collected the 14th sample from the Martian surface. Now the bad news: There’s a problem with Perseverance’s sample collection system. The containers in which the samples are collected cannot be closed completely.
NASA said in a statement yesterday, “The 14th rock sample was collected over the weekend, but the sample tube could not be sealed. The sample is safely stored in the warehouse, but it is necessary to find out why these tubes are not closing and what to do to close them,” he said.
The samples collected by Perseverance will then be brought back to Earth from Mars on another mission and analyzed in detail. The survey rover is currently collecting samples from the Jezero crater, which is believed to be an ancient river delta. Scientists have seen some traces of organic matter in the rock samples, but close examination will reveal whether these are traces of microbial life thought to have once existed on Mars.
