The portable game console market, which has been growing rapidly in recent years, is led by Steam Deck. Although it is not officially sold in our country yet, the first model managed to receive positive comments from users. This increased curiosity about Steam Deck 2. A Valve developer spoke for the first time about the Steam Deck 2 release date.
Steam Deck 2 release date will be 2025 or later
The eager wait for the new version of Steam Deck continues, but according to Valve engineers, a new model may not arrive for a few years. Developer Pierre-Loup Griffais shared the first information about Steam Deck 2’s timeline.
Griffais stated that the new Steam Deck will stand out with its battery life, but also that performance will not be compromised. But he doesn’t believe Deck 2 will be introduced in the next few years—without a major upgrade. This shows that the launch will be delayed until 2025 and beyond.
One of the Steam Deck’s weaknesses was its battery life, which lasted around 2 hours. The weak battery, which has received great criticism from users, also limits the performance of the portable console. Griffais stated that Deck 2 will experience significant increases in both performance and battery life.
Innovations in chip architectures and manufacturing processes are still evolving. So Griffais thinks the real jump in productivity will come in late 2025 at the earliest. However, he said that the Deck 2 launch may be pushed back depending on technological advances.
One of Valve’s biggest competitors in the market is Asus ROG Ally. Last week, the company launched the new ROG Ally powered by AMD Ryzen Z1. The new model is on sale at $599, which is $100 more affordable.
