Gmail got a blue tick too, embarrassing Elon Musk

Google announced that you have brought a blue checkmark, that is, a blue tick, to Gmail. The way the company uses this sign seems simple and accurate, which would embarrass Elon Musk.

Google is launching a new Gmail feature that aims to help you figure out if the sender of an incoming email is genuine or a scam. When you receive an email from an authenticated company, you will see a blue checkmark next to the company name in your inbox.

The checkmark update is the latest implementation of Google’s Brand Indicators for Message ID (BIMI) technology. Google started testing BIMI in Gmail in 2020. First, it allowed brands that signed up for BIMI to add logos to their emails. Now, blue checkmarks will be the clearest indication that the sender is legitimate.

When you hover over the blue checkmark in Gmail, you’ll see a popup that says “The sender of this email [domain] has verified that he has the logo in his profile picture”. The popup will also contain a link that takes you to a page with more information.

Google wrote in a blog post, “Strong email authentication helps users and email security systems detect and stop spam, and also allows senders to enjoy brand trust. This increases trust in email sources and provides readers with an immersive experience. “This feature will be live for all users by the end of the week and Workspace administrators can help set up BIMI for their company.”

It’s nice to see a company use a blue tick, which is a pretty clear indication that the person, brand or business on the other end is genuine. Unlike examples like Twitter, at least Google is using this checkmark as it should. We hope Elon Musk will take Google as an example for Twitter…
