Electric models are starting to take a bigger place in the automotive industry. Brands are shaping their product ranges according to electric models. We know that many manufacturers will stop selling vehicles with internal combustion engines in Europe before 2030. But Fiat has taken a much earlier step, announcing that from this summer it will only offer electric cars in the UK.

Fiat begins offering electric-only models in the UK

Fiat has announced that from 1 July, models with conventional internal combustion engines will be discontinued at its UK dealerships. From now on, the Italian brand will only offer electric and hybrid models in the island nation.

The same goes for Abarth, Fiat’s performance car division. Abarth, which reveals more powerful cars than standard models, will follow a similar path and only include electric and hybrid models. Executives refer to this step as a “key point” in Fiat’s history. Greg Taylor, General Manager of Fiat and Abarth UK, said:

This step in Fiat’s history marks an important point in our commitment to provide affordable and sustainable mobility solutions for all of our customers. This initiative is well suited to our vehicles designed for urban use, led by the popularity of the new 500.

Fiat has increased the number of electrified models by a significant amount recently. In 2021, the company electrified more than 60 percent of its product range. Every model offered by the Italian brand in the UK has at least one electric version.

The famous automobile brand first launched its electric model offensive with the 500 Hybrid and Panda Hybrid. Afterwards, it continued the electrification process with the new electric 500. The Fiat 500e is currently the best-selling electric vehicle in more than 10 countries. The electric model also achieved very successful sales figures in other countries.

500, which is the best selling electric car in Italy and France, ranks second in Germany in this sense. In addition to the electric 500, 500 Hybrid and Panda Hybrid, Fiat added the 500X Hybrid and Egea Hybrid to its product range.

Italian manufacturer is expected to follow similar policies in other countries in the coming years. So what do you think about Fiat and the electric car policy, should it be implemented in our country as well? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
