PlayStation Studios President Hermen Hulst announced that Valkyrie Entertainment will be joining PlayStation Studios. The team has provided co-development support to many companies over the years and is currently assisting Sony Santa Monica on the upcoming God of War Ragnarök.
It’s common nowadays for external studios to assist first-party games, and Valkyrie Entertainment seems like a very viable choice given their experience with AAA titles like the recently released Halo Infinite.
The fact that the team is now part of PlayStation means they’ll have more resources, which could lead to more unique game development. GUNS UP! It was a free-to-play strategy game for PC and PlayStation 4 that was released exclusively for the console in 2015. It had some great concepts, but the implementation of those concepts was lacking. Valkyrie Entertainment may present new examples that will surprise us in the future.
Both Microsoft and Sony seem to have gone on a studio acquisition spree recently, with Microsoft taking over Bethesda and all of its games like Doom, The Elder Scrolls, and more. Let’s see what the next days will show us. . .
