Transition from coal to fusion
TVA, one of the largest public service organizations in the USA, is looking for a sustainable alternative to replace existing power plants based on coal and natural gas. The agreement signed with Type One Energy aims to convert it into modern fusion plants using the infrastructure of old TVA coal plants. This transformation will increase the energy safety of the region and also contribute to its fundamental and sustainable energy sources.

The new power plant, called Infinity Two, will use Type One Energy’s innovative Stellarator fusion technology. Unlike traditional Tokamak design, stellarators keep the plasma more stable by bending magnetic fields more complex. Thus, it provides a more favorable environment for long -term energy production.
TVA and Type One Energy will carry out joint studies on location selection, environmental reviews, licensing processes and financing of the Infinity Two Power Plant. Companies aim to ensure that the project will provide energy to the network in the mid -2030s. In addition, TVA will access Type One Energy’s Power Service Shops (PSS) facilities in Alabama and support Infinity Two’s modular production and assembly processes.
“This partnership allows us to focus on completing the design of Infinity Two and using the Infinity One prototype in TVA’s Bull Run, Edi said Christofer Mowry, Type One Energy CEO, said that the partnership with TVA is very important for them. As it is understood from this statement, the Stellerator prototype will be established at the existing coal plant and tests will be performed.
