Dinosaurs, one of the most impressive creatures that once lived on Earth, enable us to shed light on the state of the Earth millions of years ago, thanks to their skeletons. Of course, aside from the scientific benefit of the business, dinosaurs can sometimes be the subject of big sales…

A T-Rex skeleton was auctioned and sold for the first time in Europe the other day. The 3.9-metre-high and 11.6-metre-long giant skeleton belonging to a wild dinosaur species has been described as “one of the most spectacular T-Rex skeletons in existence.”

The skeleton sold for $6.2 million:

The skeleton, named 293 Trinity, was purchased by an unnamed person in Zurich, Switzerland, for 5.55 million Swiss francs ($6.2 million). While it is not yet clear what the buyer will do with the skeleton, the skeleton will be open to the public for a while at the Koller auction house.

The 293 Trinity skeleton does not contain bones from a single dinosaur. The skeleton consists of three different T-Rex skeletons found during excavations in the US states of Montana and Wyoming. There are 293 individual bones in total.

Of course, scientists also expressed their concerns:

Professor at Edinburgh University Dr. Steve Brusatte, in a statement to the BBC, stated that he was worried that dinosaur specimens would fall into the hands of people. The professor shared that the skeleton is very valuable scientifically and is of great importance for educational studies.
