GeForce RTX 4090 users beware!
The GeForce RTX 4090, Nvidia’s current most powerful gaming card, can go up to 660W power consumption in intense moments. This means that the power connections are strained. So how durable are the connections?
A post shared on Reddit shows the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card’s 16-pin power connection and the user’s 16-pin to 4×8-pin conversion cable burned out. The graphics card is Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC.
It is not yet known why the incident occurred, but there are two possibilities. The first is the poor quality of the cable. The second is that Nvidia’s recommendation to bend the cable to 35mm at the head has not been followed. Since the GeForce RTX 4090 has just started shipping, it remains to be seen whether more combustion events will occur or will it be limited to a single event.
