An earlier leak said that Samsung could add a third foldable smartphone, codenamed N4, alongside the Fold and Flip series. This was followed by another leak, which suggested that the third foldable was codenamed “Diamond”.
But now it has been revealed that the name “Project Diamond” has nothing to do with a new foldable phone. “Project Diamond” seems to appear as the internal codename of the Galaxy S23, which will be presented next year.
Ross Young, an industry name, confirms this theory. The Galaxy S23 is certainly already in development, and given that high-end smartphones have taken months to design/develop, it’s not surprising that it already has a codename.
It is still too early to predict what will be offered with the Galaxy S23, apart from the next generation Qualcomm / Exynos chipsets. Exynos chipsets are eagerly awaited as Samsung LSI will be the first silicon manufactured on the 3 nm GAAFET process, which is said to be more power efficient than traditional FINFET designs.
Other than that, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra could probably use Samsung’s 200 MP camera sensor, but it’s almost certain it won’t be the first device to use it. We can also expect to see better 5G speeds thanks to Qualcomm’s x70 modem, and fast charging that crosses the 45W barrier may also be possible, although that seems unlikely at the moment…
