One of the eye-catching upgrades offered on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Plus is 45W fast charging, which seems like a huge increase over the 25W of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. However, these numbers do not mean that the device will charge almost twice as fast.
GSMArena tested the phones with three chargers, a 25W Samsung charger, a 45W Samsung charger, and a 65W third-party charger, and found that the charging speeds were more or less the same with all of them.
For example, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra took 64 minutes to fully charge with a 25W charger and 59 minutes with a 45W charger. So switching to 45W only saved 5 minutes. The 65W charger, on the other hand, stayed in the middle with 62 minutes.
The difference was even smaller when charging the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus, the 25W charger completed the charge in 62 minutes and the 45W charger in 61 minutes, so there was only a 1 minute difference.

- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Introduced
looks like the situation. When they charged the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with an empty battery for 30 minutes, the team could reach 61% with the 25W charger, and 60% with the 45W charger. The 65W charger brought the phone to 65%. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus, on the other hand, reached 62% with a 25W charger and 64% with a 45W charger in the same period.
So in general, using a 45W charger seems to charge these phones much faster, but the difference can only be a few minutes at most.
It’s not entirely clear why Samsung’s 45W charging performs so poorly, or if perhaps a software update can fix the issues. However, at least for now, considering that there is no charger out of the box with the phones, it doesn’t make much sense to pay more and get a 45W charger instead of a 25W charger.
