As the leader in the high-end smartwatch market, Apple continues to develop its smart watches and watchOS operating system every year. The new patent, discovered by Patently Apple, reveals Apple’s new smartwatch concept.
New Apple Watch may have fingerprint support
Apple’s new patent shows a fingerprint sensor placed on the side of the device. Although Apple has left TouchID behind on iPhone devices, the new iPad Air and iPad mini models come with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. It looks like Apple may switch to a similar design in future Apple Watch models.
Although smartwatches lag behind other mobile devices in biological authentication models, Apple apparently wants to change that. Placing a fingerprint sensor on Apple’s smartwatches will likely prompt other smartwatch manufacturers to act. Apple’s smartwatch with a fingerprint sensor will most likely not appear before 2024.
