Microsoft’s game subscription system, Xbox Game Pass, may soon find a rival under Sony’s signature. According to Bloomberg’s report, the company is working on a new service that it plans to launch in the spring of 2022. This service, codenamed Spartacus, is a candidate to please PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players.
Bloomberg says it based this news on multiple people close to the project. Currently, Sony has two major gaming-related subscription services: PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. The former offers online play and monthly bonus games, while the latter offers classic and some modern PlayStation games for both download and streaming. It is speculated that the Spartacus service will combine the features of the two services and replace the PlayStation Now brand. Moreover, with different subscription plans, the expansion of the service to PlayStation 3 and PSP – PS Vita consoles does not seem to be a surprise.
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass currently offers day-one access to all first-party games alongside a large library of games from other publishers. It will be interesting to see how the game library takes shape once Sony’s rival service becomes reality. Of course, Sony will have to take radical steps in pricing if it wants a competitive environment. . .
