In their new research, scientists stated that the third dose of the vaccine showed significant effectiveness against this variant, which also has symptoms such as ‘red eye’ and ‘hair loss’. Now, new statements about the variant have come from the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO President Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus; Contrary to the general belief, he made alarming statements by stating that the variant is not ‘mild’.

In a statement made on Thursday, WHO stated that Omicron, which is highly contagious, should not be considered a mild disease and that it caused a ‘tsunami of cases’ worldwide, crashing health systems. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave the following statements at a press conference held on Thursday: “Omicron may not be producing very severe effects in many people, especially those who have been vaccinated. However, this does not mean that it should be classified as ‘mild’. This variant also kills and hospitalizes people just like the others. ”
These statements of the WHO came after the case records in the USA as well as in many parts of the world. US health officials announced that 95% of the cases in the country were Omicron. After that, 1 million cases were detected in a day in the country in the past days, and there was a 247% increase in cases compared to the previous weeks. In addition, it was reported by the US healthcare professionals that there was an increase in the cases that occurred in children.
One of the leading health officials in the USA, Dr. Anthony Fauci also made similar statements to the WHO at the press conference held by the White House. Fauci said that although Omicron does not cause as serious diseases as other variants, it threatens hospitals and health systems of countries; therefore, he made important warnings by expressing that no one should ‘get into complacency’.
