Fortnite, as you know, is one of the favorite games of Epic Games. The reason is that both the game is released for free on every platform and the player base continues to make regular in-game payments.
Such an important game for Epic Games, unfortunately, will not be on the Steam Deck, one of the newest and exciting devices in the game market. Let’s look at the details of this development, which is purely for security reasons, if you wish.
The reason is all about the anti-cheat system
The reason behind Epic Games’ decision to make such a decision for Fortnite may first seem like competition. But the situation has nothing to do with competition. In fact, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeny used the expressions “Valve made an incredible move” for Steam Deck.
The reason why Fortnite will not be released on Steam Deck is that Steam Deck uses Linux as its operating system. According to CEO Sweeny’s statements, Epic Games does not have an anti-cheat system equipped to bring a large-scale game like Fortnite to the Linux operating system.
Tim Sweeny used the following statements in his detailed statement on this subject; “We don’t have the confidence to be able to combat cheating on a wide variety of kernel configurations, including custom ones.”
Stating that there are various special kernel configurations on Linux, Sweeny said that anti-cheat systems will work properly in small-scale games, but they will be insufficient in a large game like Fortnite.
