The path of the fastest pilots in the world once again fell to Italy. The pilots, who previously came to Italy for the Emilia Romagna GP in April, will this time compete at the country’s iconic racetrack, Monza. The qualifying rounds were held for the race to be held on Sunday.
The successful driver of the Italian team Ferrari, Charles Leclerc, managed to make the fastest lap on this track, where his team was seen as the host. Thus, he won the right to start the race from the first row. After the Dutch GP, it was a fairly quiet qualifying.
De Vries on track to replace Albon
Known as the “Temple of Speed”, Monza draws attention as a track where Max Verstappen, the fastest name on the track, has never been on the podium during his career and can only finish 5th. Max Verstappen had the 2nd fastest time in qualifying. The third fastest name is Carlos Sainz Jr., also from Ferrari. it happened.
At the end of qualifying, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was the fourth fastest, followed by Hamilton and George Russell. Lando Norris, Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso were the other drivers in the top 10, respectively.
Former F2 and Formula-E champion Nyck De Vries, who also served as Mercedes’ reserve driver, took the place of the offended Williams driver Alex Albon. Thus, De Vries participated in a Formula 1 qualifying lap for the first time.
Teams also commemorated Queen Elizabeth in the race where Ferrari wore yellow patterned cars and yellow overalls for the 100th anniversary of the Monza track. Seven of the 10 teams in Formula 1 are headquartered in England.
Grid penalties will change the ranking
In the Italian GP, many grid penalties were also applied because the engines or parts of many drivers’ vehicles were changed. These penalties and their reasons are as follows:

- Kevin Magnussen: 15 Rows – New engine and parts
- Carlos Sainz: Starting at the Back of the Grid – New engine, new parts, new electronic control system
