Ford has issued a recall for 462,000 vehicles worldwide over the possibility that the rear view cameras may have faulty video output. According to the Associated Press and Reuters, the recall has begun recalling some 2020 to 2023 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators, as well as a group of 2020 and 2022 Lincoln Corsairs within its models. A problem is also present in the models of the affected vehicles, the in-car entertainment touchscreen, and the 360-degree cameras that display live images on its console.
Has Ford been able to fix the rear view camera issue?
According to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency contacted Ford in late 2021 about allegations that the live view camera showed a blue image instead of showing what was outside. Ford tried to resolve this issue with suppliers to analyze these reports, but it wasn’t until December 2022 that the automaker was able to fix this issue in the lab and in-vehicle, so Ford simply recalled the vehicles.
Apparently, as of November 2, it submitted a warranty report on this issue. In addition, the automaker stated in the report that 17 minor accidents occurred, but there were no injuries due to the rear camera and blue screen problem of the vehicles. Reuters said vehicles recalled in 2021 will also be able to update their image processing module software.
