Ford, which wants to reach more people in the electric car market, announced that they are collaborating with Tesla. Ford CEO Jim Farley, who met with Elon Musk, announced that the new generation cars will be compatible with the Tesla charging station. Ford models produced in 2025 and later will be compatible with Tesla connectors, known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

Ford will use connectors suitable for Tesla charging station in its vehicles

According to the information announced, Ford will give up the CCS standard, which is the most used in the USA. Ford officials briefed on the subject, “2nd Generation electric cars with NACS port will have the option to charge in CCS chargers via an adapter.” made statements.

Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit vehicles with a Combined Charging System (CCS) port will be able to charge at 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the US with an adapter developed by Tesla. It is stated that the adapter will be released next year.

Pointing to the ease of use and reliability of the connector developed by Tesla, Farley said, “This is a really big deal for our customers.” said. Underlining that they are happy to collaborate with Ford, Musk said, “We are very happy to support Ford vehicles with the Tesla Supercharger network, and also to provide API access so that a Ford vehicle can charge a Tesla Supercharger seamlessly using the Ford application. We don’t want the esla Supercharger network to be a walled garden. We will continue to work towards making this something that supports electrification and sustainable transport in general.” made statements.

Farley said Ford is prioritizing any efficiency gains that would allow smaller batteries for competitive range over high-range electric cars. He stated that choosing the Tesla standard played a role in making the customer’s job easier.

Fast charging will be provided for Ford vehicles with different equipment than the Magic Dock provided for CCS vehicles at some Supercharger stations. Musk assured that the charge rate of Ford EVs will not be limited at Supercharger stations, stating that these models will charge “whatever the physical limit.”
