Samsung Display plans to introduce its new product, which combines foldable and slidable features, to some guests at its special booth at CES 2023. This panel is called a hybrid panel because it combines the two functions.

The technology that expands the screen with the technology that folds the screen is applied for the first time in a single panel. The design is an additional screen that appears when one end of the screen is pulled after the folding screen is unfolded. The size is 8 inches when the screen is fully folded, and 10 inches when the folding screen is unfolded. When extended by pulling, a 12.4-inch screen emerges.

It is said that Samsung is testing this panel for devices that can transform from smartphones to tablets and laptops according to the needs of the user, and that such devices will be really expensive, which is not difficult to predict. It is not clear when Samsung Display will start mass production of such screens so that device manufacturers can use this folding and expanding screen in their products. The devices require highly sophisticated hinges and metal plates to hold this screen together.

Samsung is trying to expand the OLED panel market by developing advanced form factors. OLED screens are already used in many products from wearables to phones to tablets, and they are starting to spread in laptops and PC monitors. Hybrid OLED panels can also be used in vehicles as they are in a folding and expanding structure.
