Brands such as Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei continue to meet the demand in this area with their foldable phone models. Especially while Samsung has a significant share in this area, it seems to lose some of its power here due to increasing competition. On the other hand, 2023 is expected to be good for foldable phones.

Foldable phone sales to increase by 30 percent

A new report shared by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DCSS) focuses on shipments of foldable phone shipments. According to the data, foldable phone shipments will increase by 30 percent in 2023. In addition, according to the data of the third quarter of 2022, it is stated that sales will reach 5.2 million units and Samsung will meet the expectations.

On the other hand, Samsung is expected to experience a decrease of 50 percent on a monthly basis and 36 percent on an annual basis in the fourth quarter of the year and its sales to decline to 2.6 million units. With this decrease, Samsung’s market share in the fourth quarter will decrease to 82 percent. Thus, the South Korean giant will have regressed in this area from year to year for the first time.

Although it is stated that Samsung’s decline will continue in the first and second quarters of 2023, it is underlined that the foldable phone market will get stronger in 2023. It is estimated that a total of 17 million foldable phones will be sold in 2023, an increase of 30 percent.
