Looking at the Sun with extreme ultraviolet can reveal the ever-changing structure in the solar corona, the upper atmosphere of the Sun, and allows us to obtain high-resolution images. A new published image of the Sun is now available in ultra-high resolution, thanks to observations from the Solar Orbiter.
Solar Orbiter captured a 9,148 x 9,112-pixel Sun image containing more than 83 million pixels from a distance of 75 million kilometers – about half the Sun’s orbit with Earth’s orbit. This resolution is 10 times higher than 4K resolution.
It took more than four hours for the spacecraft to collect the image with the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI). Observations were carried out on 7 March. The Solar Orbiter, which made the resulting image possible, is the product of an international collaboration between the European Space Agency and NASA.
