Announcing the M2 Ultra, its most powerful processor to date, as part of the WWDC 2023 event, Apple managed to create a great excitement in users. So much so that the Cuppertino giant said that the new chipset is 4 times faster than the most powerful Intel-based iMac. So what does the processor with 134 billion transistors, 24 CPUs and 76 GPU cores offer? Here are the M2 Ultra benchmark results.

First results from M2 Ultra

In a new report shared today, the Geekbench 6 computing performance of the Apple M2 Ultra, which powers the next-generation Mac Pro and Mac Studio, has been leaked. In this way, we can say that what the processor will offer against the M1 Ultra and current graphics cards has come to light. Let’s take a look at the results together.

This version of the leaked M2 Ultra has 128GB of combined RAM and a 24-core CPU configuration. When we look at the leaked image, we see that the chipset scored 220,674 in Geekbench Metal tests. It should be noted that this score is 46 percent higher than the M1 Ultra, which scored 150,407 points in similar tests. Of course, behind this is the jump in GPU cores.

On the other hand, the most surprising thing is that the M2 Ultra is competing with Nvidia’s second most powerful graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4080. With a score of 245,808 in similar tests, the RTX 4080 performs only 10 percent higher than the M2 Ultra. Also, another interesting point is that the RTX 4080 has a processing performance of 48 TFlops, while the M2 Ultra has a processing performance of 27 TFlops.

Performance results of other Apple M series processors (Geekbench Metal):

  • Apple M1: 22,718
  • Apple M1 Pro: 40,991
  • Apple M1 Max: 71,614
  • Apple M1 Ultra: 102,106
  • Apple M2: 28,874
  • Apple M2 Pro: 52,691
  • Apple M2 Max: 82,015
  • Apple M2 Ultra: 220,674

The results of the GPU tests show that the new Mac Pro and Mac Studio will make significant progress, especially in terms of graphics. For more information about the M2 Ultra, be sure to check out this article.
