The most talked about names of the past days were Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci. With the mRNA-based coronavirus vaccine they developed with Pfizer, the couple, who gave hope to the whole world, came to the fore to be depicted on euro banknotes. The person who put forward the proposal was the German MP Moritz Körner. Now, there has been a remarkable development regarding this issue.

Robert Kalina, who has been the designer of banknotes that have been in circulation for a while, made some statements on the subject. The designer said that it would not be a good idea to have Özlem Türeci and Uğur Şahin on the banknotes. So why?

“Can lead to jealousy”

According to Robert Kalina, it is necessary to be equidistant from all countries when creating banknotes. Stating that he also prefers architectural structures instead of names, the designer stated that names such as Beethoven or Mozart can be used on banknotes since they cannot be associated with a single country, but such a situation will not be the case for Özlem Türeci and Uğur Şahin.

“Portraits are permissible, but only if their faces are obscure. I used architecture. Bridges on one side and windows and doors on the other. . . Kalina stated that Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci can only be included in the banknotes in this way. According to Kalina, the inclusion of pictures of scientists on banknotes can lead to jealousy and tensions between countries. . .
