First information about Snapdragon Wear 5100 and Wear 5100 Plus, developed for wearable devices, started to come. Wear 5100/5100 Plus, which is expected to be Qualcomm’s first 4nm chipset for smart watches, will focus on increasing energy efficiency.

One of the biggest problems with smartwatches other than the Apple Watch: poor battery life. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of processor efficiency. Although Qualcomm tried to solve this problem with the wearable device processor Snapdragon Wear 4100 produced with a 12nm fabrication process, there was no significant increase in battery performance.

Snapdragon Wear 5100 expected features

According to the information received, the chipset will have four ARM Cortex-A53 cores that can run at a maximum speed of 1.7 GHz. However, it is claimed that it will meet the graphics need with the Adreno 702 GPU clocked up to 700 MHz; It is expected to support up to 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

Wear 5100 chipset will also support Bluetooth 5.2 and LTE connections. However, the manufacturer must also include these features in the smart watch.

Snapdragon Wear 5100 Plus has coprocessor

Snapdragon Wear 5100 Plus, which is the advanced version of Snapdragon Wear 5100, will have almost the same features. However, according to the leaks, the chipset will include the “QCC5100 coprocessor”, which is not available in the Wear 5100.

As the name suggests, the QCC5100 will kick in when the main processor is insufficient. But the coprocessor has one major drawback: Since it’s 22nm, it will run slower than the Wear 5100 Plus. QCC5100 will be responsible for running the simple operations of the smart watch such as Bluetooth, Wireless, notification display.
