Meta (formerly Facebook), which continues its investments in Metaverse without slowing down, continues its steps in virtual reality technologies (VR). The technology giant, led by Mark Zuckerberg, bought Oculus in 2014 and took serious steps in this regard and launched VR sets.
The company showed off its new virtual reality glasses for the first time in October last year. This device, which was surprisingly introduced while waiting for the Oculus Quest 3, was given the code name ‘Project Cambria’. In addition, in the past weeks, a Twitter user shared some images that were stated to belong to the new VR set, and revealed what the device might look like. Now, there has been an important development in this regard.
Project Cambria will bring the real world and virtual worlds together
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, with a demo video he shared on his social media accounts, named Project Cambria. It allowed us to see some features of VR glasses. What the device looks like is not shown in the shared video; but there were hints about what he could do. Sharing the video with the words “First look at the mixed reality (MR) in our Project Cambria device”, Zuckerberg emphasized that the device uses the Presence Platform, the company’s mixed reality platform introduced in the past months.
When we examine the video, we see that the device combines the real world and the virtual world. In the images, it is revealed that Zuckerberg, together with glasses, can bring digital assets to the real world with high quality. For example, it is possible to access screens wherever we want, to interact with digital assets, or to exercise with a virtual fitness instructor, with glasses.
The famous billionaire stated in his post that this demo called ‘The World Beyond’ will soon come to App Lab for developers to experience. It should be added that there are not many details about the device yet. Zuckerberg states that the device, which is expected to offer mixed reality and augmented reality support, will be released this year. In other news, it is stated that the new generation glasses can work independently and have real-time face and eye tracking features.
