Volkswagen Group has decided to recall its vehicles due to suspected fire in its rechargeable hybrid models. More than 100,000 vehicles belonging to the Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen brands will be recalled for this reason.

42 thousand 300 of these vehicles are vehicles with Volkswagen logo, while there are 24 thousand Audi models. Many models of the Seat and Skoda brands will also be subject to this recall. So what’s the problem with these brands?

Battery shortage in rechargeable hybrid models

It turned out that Volkswagen Group made the recall due to insufficiently insulated high-voltage batteries. We can say that vehicles pose a great danger as batteries that overheat during use can cause fire with insufficient insulation. Due to this problem, 16 vehicles have been on fire in Germany so far.

A statement from the German Federal Motor Vehicle Office said:

The problem is caused by a faulty fuse in the propulsion system of plug-in hybrid vehicles (rechargeable hybrid). originates. This fuse can fail in the event of an overload, causing the high-voltage battery to catch fire.

To solve this problem, it was announced that additional protective insulation material will be installed on the fuse box of the battery. After the explosion in a Volkswagen Golf GTE model in 2021, the German manufacturer announced that it would investigate the issue in detail. After these investigations, the brand, which predicted that the same situation could be experienced in other models, decided to recall more than 100 thousand vehicles.
