Have you ever thought about how well your ear can hear? You can hear when someone next to you speaks quietly, but this hearing will diminish over time. Did you know that your ear also has an age independent of your own age? Unlike organs such as the liver, skin, and lungs, your ear cannot renew itself. For this reason, the years when a person’s hearing frequency is in the best condition are infancy years. With the damage you have done to your ear and of course with age, your ear will start to hear less. Do you know how much this is now?
Today we are going to do a test to see how old your ear is. After the test we will do, we will explain why your ear hears less over time and why this process starts with a high frequency. Then let’s first see how old your ears are by watching the video below.
Calculate your ear age with this video:
Why does the ear begin to hear less over time?
There may be more than one reason for your ear low hearing, but the difficulty of hearing that comes with age is related to the inner ear. Your outer ear collects sound waves and sends them to the middle ear. Here, sound waves hitting the eardrum make this region vibrate. The hammer, anvil, and stirrup bones here transmit the vibration to the inner ear. In the inner ear, which contains the cochlea filled with lymphatic fluid, there are hair cells sensitive to various frequencies. The hair cells here also convert mechanical energy into electrochemical energy. The hair cells located here are sensitive to various frequencies. We need to protect this region, which cannot regenerate itself, very well throughout our lives. Here, the first damaged cells are those that are sensitive to higher frequencies. These cells lie behind our inability to hear these high-frequency sounds even though we hear them as babies.
As time passes, our ear, which cannot renew itself, begins to have more difficulty in hearing high frequencies. The loud noise to which we expose our ears in this process also facilitates this deterioration. This is the main reason why people can’t hear you fully after reaching a certain age even if they have no problems. For this reason, instead of getting angry with your grandparents for not hearing you, remember that something like this will happen to you over time.
