The new version of Android will offer a useful feature to help you find your lost phone even if it is turned off. This innovation, which Google will implement in the “Find My Device” service, was discovered by researcher Kuba Wojciechowski in the source code of Android 14.

This feature, which will be called “Pixel Power-off Finder” on Pixel series smartphones, will also be offered to other manufacturers. The code mentions the hardware.google.bluetooth.power_off_finder layer. This means that the Bluetooth chip in the device stays on even when the phone is turned off.

It’s on iPhones

In the new version of Android, it will be possible to supply power to the relevant module even if the smartphone is turned off. As Wojciechowski stated, the smartphone will need to have certain hardware components for the feature to work. In other words, a hardware-level support is mentioned.

As you know, this technology is already available on Apple phones after iPhone 11. As of iOS 15, certain iPhone models can be found through the Find My app, even if it’s turned off.
