Deep Silver stated that Dead Island 2 is under active development. The project’s publisher said in a statement that more details will be shared as they become available. The comment confirms the rumors about Dead Island 2 earlier this week. At this point, it was claimed that it was revived and that its launch could take place in 2022.

The report did not stop there. It was already said that the game is in the development stage. Now there is information that the trailer is close.

Dead Island 2 changed four developers in five years

Dead Island 2 began development under Dying Light 2 developer Techland in 2014. After that, the process passed to Yager when the second studio moved on to their new game released earlier this month. In 2015, Yager ceased its activities. Production was picked up by Sumo Digital before it moved to Dambusters in 2019. After four different developers in five years, the continued health of the project wasn’t looking very good. Still, Deep Silver stated that it’s still going on.

The 2022 date seems a bit cramped even after eight years of development cycle. The disruption to the zombie-smashing sequel happened even before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. It seems possible that we may see an announcement before it is released in the next 12 months. However, Deep Silver’s ‘when ready’ statement indicates that the relevant teams are still dedicating their time on the project.
